To the editor,

To our neighbors, fellow New Hampton townspeople and to anyone who has been frightened by the misinformation put out be the media concerning Mr. Guay: We are truly saddened by the recent events concerning our house guest. We did not go into this lightly. Hopefully, many of you who don't know us well, or at all, will please stop and think this out. We have become too preoccupied with our daily lives to bother to try to gather ALL the facts for ourselves, and have just accepted without question what the media tells us. If you think about it, you will probably say, "yes, that's true". This said, please consider this: Mr. Guay was not charged with rape, as the media suggests. He was charged with the death of a 12-year-old boy and he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at that time.

The media has continued to play on our fears in oder to "sell" news. We tried to tell our story to the TV news people but when I requested that they let me preview their new release as they would present it, they REFUSED!. They wanted to continue to "hype" the situation in order to sell news, NOT report the truth.

The truth is that during the 35 years Mr. Guay spent serving his sentence, he had a life-changing experience with THE LORD. Mr. Guay is a humble, gentle, quiet man. He is cooperative with authorities. While here, he has been polite, considerate and caring and he prays for those causing the problems, as well as for those being adversely affected. His focus has been to complete projects that we have needed to have done. He has worked tirelessly many nights until 11:30 p.m. toward this end.

It was reported that River Road is the only access to our road. I don't know what residents of Ashland or New Hampton would think that RIver Road has any access to our road. Could this be another inaccuracy by the media?

Finally, we have been told that Mr. Guay has been seen in my car while I was on my bread route. This, too, is false. He has not accompanied me during my bread route, Once, recently, a personal friend from Maine was in the car with me, not Mr. Guay.

We appeal to you to consider the facts as we have presented them. We truly regret the pain and discomfort caused by reckless, sensationalism from the media. We pray that this letter gets printed in its entirety. It's time to tell fear that we have had enough. PLEASE, let's try to let truly changed man live in peace.
