To the editor,

I have lived on Lake Winnisquam for a number of years. Each spring/early summer I have watched large turtles swim trom the northern part of the lake past our home. I have also seen very small turtles, as well as large turtles, swimming north.

I have been told that some of these turtles make their way to Ahern Beach to lay their eggs, then return to the northern end of the lake. In recent years I have seen less activity. This could be due to increased boat activity or milfoil spread.

I would hope that those who are involved in attempting to build the large launching site and parking lot at Ahern have considered the environmental impact it would have on blue heron, turtles, loon, otter and other species found along the shores of Lake Winnisquam before moving ahead with said project.

In fact, since there is already an area where boats could be launched on Water Street, my hope is that the Ahern development will be forgotten.
