To The Daily Sun,
Steve Earle wrongly claims "there is nowhere in the Koran that tells Muslims to 'love thy neighbor,' or to 'forgive thy trespassers.'" Every religion has rules of reciprocity and forgiveness.
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all based on the same barbaric God of Abraham, so they are likely to share both the good and the bloody awful. The Muslim golden rule variation doesn't put it as "do unto others" but to "wish for others" or "love for others" what you do for yourself. Search Quran at https://quran.com/.
Quran 4:36, "Worship Allah and associate nothing with him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess (slaves)."
Quran 42:37: "And who shun the more heinous sins and abominations; and who, whenever they are moved to anger, readily forgive."
Quran 24:22: "And let not those who possess dignity and ease among you swear not to give to the near of kin and to the needy, and to fugitives for the cause of Allah. Let them forgive and show indulgence. Yearn ye not that Allah may forgive you? Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
Quran 4:8-9 speaks to when an inheritance is divided. "And when (other) relatives and orphans and the needy are present at the (time of) division, then provide for them (something) out of the estate and speak to them words of appropriate kindness. And when other relatives and orphans and the needy are present at the time of division, then provide for them something out of the estate and speak to them words of appropriate kindness."
Quran 7:199-200: "Keep to forgiveness, and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the ignorant. And if it should happen that a prompting from Satan stirs thee up (to anger), seek refuge with Allah: behold, He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing."
Quran 42:40: "But remember that an requiting evil may, too, become an evil: hence whoever pardons his foe and makes peace, his reward rests with God - for, verily, He does not love evildoers."
Quran 64:14: "O You who believe! Behold, among your spouses and your children are enemies unto you: so beware of them! But if you pardon (their faults), and forbear, and forgive- then, behold, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
Quran 42:43: "But withal, if one is patient in adversity and forgives — this, behold, is indeed something to set one's heart upon."
