To The Daily Sun,
In Saturday's paper I was disgusted by Mr. Earle's tone when he said, "A new writer enters the letters to the editor pages, welcome..." and then proceeds to pompously spew typical right-wing Islamophobic rhetoric and disrespects Mr. Lassen.
The truth is, all of the great religions were founded during times of turmoil, and all holy books contain violent passages. If all adherents to Islam were as Mr. Earle depicts them, given their enormous numbers in the world, we would be in the middle of another World War.
I'm curious where he gets his statistics. "80 percent of all terrorist attacks since 1990 have been in honor of Allah". Really, says who? Most of the terrorism in the United States in the late 20th century was perpetrated by right-wing, home-grown fanatics. Yes, we face a significant terrorist threat from a miniscule fraction of Islamic believers, largely because of our failed foreign policy and military activities in the area; but to label all followers of Islam terrorists is ludicrous.
