LONDONDERRY — A Londonderry family desperately searching for their missing son has taken to social media with pleas for help from the public.
Alec Misco, 25, went missing from his family home in Londonderry around 10 p.m. on April 22, the family wrote on Facebook.
In tracking his cellphone, Misco’s last known location placed him in Jackman, Maine, around 4 a.m. on April 23 in a wooded area a few short miles from a Canadian customs checkpoint, said Londonderry Detective Christopher Olson.
His cellphone has since been turned off, Olson said. If Misco did enter Canada, Olson theorized he may have shut off his phone to avoid excess data charges but Canadian Border Control has no record of Misco crossing the border.
“It’s not out of the ordinary for him to get up and drive but he usually always tells his family where he’s going and he didn’t do that this time which is cause for concern,” Olson said.
Misco is not known to have any ongoing mental health, substance-abuse concerns, a criminal record or ties to Canada. At this time, foul play is not suspected.
The Londonderry Police Department is working with the Maine State Police and Canadian Border Control to search the wooded area in Jackman, Olson said. The town is north of the Western Mountains in the Moose River Valley.
As of Thursday afternoon, Misco was still missing and Olson was working with his bank to access his credit and debit card information. In their initial missing person’s report, the family said Misco didn’t bring his debit card with him when he left.
Police have received reports from residents sighting someone matching Misco’s description in portions of Maine and New Hampshire, but leads haven’t panned out.
Misco drives a silver Honda Pilot with New Hampshire plate BDYKNDS. He is 5’7”, 250 pounds and bald with blue eyes and a long, dirty blonde or reddish beard. He sometimes wears glasses.
“My heart is breaking and I just need my son home,” Desiree Misco wrote on Facebook Wednesday morning.
Anyone with information about Misco or his whereabouts is asked to contact the Londonderry Police Department at 603-432-1118.
