Fabric and craft chain Joann plans to shut its store on Storrs Street in Concord as well as six other stores in New Hampshire as part of a nationwide reaction to its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The company said it plans to close more than 500 of its 850 stores, scattered throughout 49 states. According to court filings, the Hooksett store is the only one in New Hampshire that is not slated to shut.
The filings indicate the company will shut several Joann Fabric and Craft stores in the Seacoast as well as those in Belmont, Nashua, and West Lebanon, along with the one in the Storrs Street shopping plaza next to Market Basket in Concord. It is closing 19 stores in Massachusetts, 2 in Vermont and 3 in Maine.
Joann filed for bankruptcy for the second time in January after going private a year ago. It is one of a number of retail chains that have struggled since the COVID pandemic, which pushed many consumers toward online shopping.
