Young Laconia man charged with dometic assaults

A 22-year-old Laconia man has been charged with assaulting a woman who is 7 1/2-months pregnant and the woman's 5-year-son. Jerry Roberts of 68 Batchelder Street was charged on Thursday with "second degree assault" and "domestic violence simple assault".

According to a police report, police were responding to a report of a domestic violence episode at about 5:20 p.m. when they encountered a woman who said she was a victim of Robert's assault and told officers that the Roberts was still inside the residence with her young son. Officers say their investigation led them to believe that Roberts caused injuries to the woman's mouth and chest areas, and tossed the boy to floor after his mother had fled, causing injuries to the youngsters left arm and right ear. Both victims were transported by police to Lakes Region General Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and then released.

As is normal with alleged assaults of this type, police did not release the names of the victims or describe their exact relationship to Roberts.
