Have you ever heard the famous quote “I Have A Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr.? If you have then you might think Martin is remembered just because of that quote, that's not the only reason. Martin did many other significant things. He won awards, encouraged people and risked his life fighting for rights. But how did all his success begin? Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929. His dad was a preacher and speaker which taught Martin a lot. Martin had two other siblings, they all took piano lessons and loved to play football and baseball. As a young child, Martin knew about segregation and grew up to change it. Unfortunately, Martin was assassinated in 1968 by James Earl Ray.
We have a day for Martin Lurther King Jr. A day to remember all of the changes Martin made and the peace that he had. Every year on the third Monday of January, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Martin was an amazing civil rights leader, in every speech Martin will have peace which is a reason why we observe him. He used “big words” which were simple and direct, yet very inspirational. Another reason is Martin never gave up, throughout his lifetime he got arrested 29 times, but he kept on fighting for equal rights. Martin also marched 54 miles straight for five days with a group of protesters. They were holding signs and shouting for rights and to be able to vote. When people said “separate,” he said “together.”
Martin Luther King Jr. was important to our community because he cared about people all over the world, he fought for rights and won. Now everybody can vote and ride on buses together because of Martin. It's also important because Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day to celebrate and be peaceful to everyone else. He went wherever people needed help. Martin taught people to not fight physically, rather with their words. The power of love. Another reason is today everyone has access to the same things, that wasn’t true back then. It is now, because of Martin Luther King Jr. There is no school on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but at school kids learn about Martin, which then leads them to learn about how black people were treated. They will understand how grateful they are today because of Martin.
In conclusion, now you know Martin Luther King Jr. did a lot more than one famous speech. He was a man whose dream changed America, and the world, forever!
