The Laconia Public Library held an eclipse viewing event in the library garden Monday afternoon. The event was open to the public, and anyone who came received free glasses. While Laconia is not in the path of totality, eclipse watchers saw 97% coverage. On Saturday, the library gave out 800 pairs of glasses, and 750 pairs on Monday morning before the eclipse. They reserved about 75 pairs for the viewing event, which were all taken. The library’s chair of the board of trustees John Moriarty came toward the end of the event to watch with the crowd. “It's great to see how something celestial can bring out the best in community,” he said. “The the atmosphere around the library is subtly excited and seems to be exactly parallel with the event itself.”
