NEW HAMPTON — A crash that injured several people and ended the life of an unborn child on Friday is likely to result in criminal charges, police say.

New Hampton Police Chief Joshua Tyrrell reported that collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. on July 26, on New Hampshire Route 132. The crash was caused by a southbound vehicle, being driven by a pregnant adult female and which also had a young child as a passenger, drifted into the northbound lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle with a driver and passenger who were both minors.

"Unfortunately, the unborn child of the driver of the southbound vehicle died as a result of the crash," Tyrrell said, adding all other people involved sustained "serious injuries."

The road was closed until 2 p.m. while investigators studied the scene.

"This is an active and ongoing investigation and serious charges are likely forthcoming," Tyrrell said. "No other details are being released at this time."
