A local man and woman were arrested early yesterday morning when police interrupted an alleged drug deal in Lakeport.
Steven Moy, 20, of 196 Elm Street was charged with possession of a narcotic drug with intent to distribute and resisting arrest while Myranda Clifton, 22, of 736 Union Avenue was charged with disorderly conduct.
According to police, Officer Justin Blanchette was on patrol shortly after 1 a.m. when he spotted two cars drive into the parking lot of the Opechee Inn and Spa and park alongside the railroad tracks. Both drivers left their cars and went into the woods together. Blanchette reported that as he approached the pair they appeared to make a quick hand-to-hand transfer.
Moy kept his hands in his pockets and, when Blanchette began checking him for weapons, attempted to flee only to be apprehended after a brief struggle by Officer Kevin Short, who was just reaching the scene. While police dealt with Moy, Clifton ignored orders to stand clear and was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Searched following his arrest, Moy was found in possession of cocaine, which police allege was individually packaged for sale, and $1,225.10 in cash, both of which were seized.
Both Moy and Clifton were released on personal recognizance bail and are scheduled to arraigned in Laconia District Court on August 12.
