An eighteen-wheeler filled with garbage, driven by Harold Lee, 35, of Manchester for Dart Trucking of Londonderry, jackknifed, flipped over and slid down a steep embankment covered in snow on Route 11 just east of Ellacoya State park around 12:30 p.m. yesterday.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Jim Hayes, a crew from Belknap Landscaping came on the accident to find garbage strewn all over the area and the driver completely buried in snow in the cab of his truck. They dug him out with their hands and Gilford Fire-Rescue transferred him to Lakes Region General Hospital where he was treated for a neck injury.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but Hayes ventured that Lee lost control descending the steep, windy stretch of road leading to Ellacoya.

Three tow trucks from Rochester Towing were required to right the truck. Gilford Police re-routed traffic for several hours.
