LACONIA — One person was transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia after a low-speed collision between an SUV and a wheelchair at Union Avenue and Strafford Street Tuesday afternoon.
“This person was stopped for the stop sign,” said witness Steve Bedard, as he gestured to a dark gray Toyota RAV4, then toward an empty powered wheel chair. “And this person just headed out and she never saw him. She realized she hit him and stopped. It knocked him out of the wheelchair.”
Capt. Al Graton of the Laconia Police Department investigated the scene with another officer, while a third spoke with the driver of the RAV4. Graton confirmed the crash was between a single vehicle and a mobility device and was low speed. Graton did not comment on the extent of the victim’s injuries, but Bedard said he “seemed to be in good spirits.”
