A Tilton man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child, traveling with an open container, failing to use child restraints and speeding on Sunday afternoon while a passenger was held on a warrant from Hillsborough County for non-payment of child support.

Officers stopped Ban Barnett, 45, of Tilton, who was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, at 1:36 p.m. on Lakeshore Road for erratic operation and excessive speed. When Barnett failed a series of field sobriety tests, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, second offense.

Meanwhile, officers discovered that Barnett's passenger, Kenneth Blanchette, 42, who was accompanied by his two sons aged seven and eight, was wanted for failing to pay child support. Moreover, his eight year old son was not wearing a seat belt when Barnett's vehicle was stopped.

Barnett was released on personal recognizance bail, but Blanchette was held in Belknap County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail.
