There’s a lot of heart on the Laconia-Winnisquam-Inter-Lakes Lakers hockey team. They took it upon themselves to seek sponsors for the first water fountain at Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia. Many teams use the rink, including the Belmont-Gilford High School hockey team, the New England Wolves teams, from youth all the way up to National Collegiate Development Conference, along with the Learn to Skate program, the Legends hockey teams, figure skaters, and community members for open skate. Now, players can use the fountain for filtered water refills, not the bathroom faucet. Half the cost of the new fountain was raised through selling Sal’s Pizza at Friday night Meltdowns, and the rest through donations. The cost of the installation at Merrill Fay, including the labor, was donated by Lakes Region businesses including The Margate Resort and Porter Heating and Cooling. The infrastructure improvement will last for years to come, and the legacy of the current Lakers team will live on. The Lakers roster includes Aiden Wirth, Alex Wilson, Ava Zegarelli, Bentley Dutile, Cohen O’Reilly, Dawson Turgeon, George Bassett, Jeremy Jenkins, Kale Derepentigny, Macy Fields, Matthew Hibbert, Mordecai Fontanez, Rock Londer, Sawyer Evert and Will Thayer. The coaching staff is Head Coach Ross Tine and Assistant Coaches Mike Zegarelli, Jay Londer and Pat O’Reilly. The team manager is Logan Hanson.

The Lakers hockey team recently led a donation drive to raise funds for the purchase and installation of a water fountain at Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia. Up until the installation, which took place on Feb. 13, players had to use bathroom sinks to refill their bottles. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new fountain was held on Feb. 14.
