LACONIA — Boaters do not have to venture far from the water to find speciality burgers and beers, as both Flurries Surfside Burger Bar in Meredith and the new Surfside Burger Bar in The Weirs Beach provide all that and more.

Flurries Surfside Burger Bar is located just down the road from the docks in downtown Meredith. In the same facility as the original Flurries shop, the revamped restaurant has undergone some changes over the past five years, according to current owner Steve Fields. Although the shop still offers the staple items it was known for, such as ice cream and fried seafood, it now also offers burgers, hot dogs, chicken meals, sandwiches, salads and soup.

“Since we took over the business five years ago it has grown a lot,” said Fields. “We’re finding now that many people now come on a regular basis for the food we offer,” said Fields. He went on to state that some of the most popular items are off of the fried seafood menu, including the fried clams.

The outpouring of customers over the past couple seasons inspired Fields to expand his business. While exploring possible places to build a new shop, Fields stumbled upon an open venue at Weirs Beach that seemed like the perfect place to put his new restaurant. Now, after months of planning, renovations and permits completed, the shop has been open at the Weirs location for three weeks.

This new shop has some of the same features as the original Flurries Surfside Burger Bar, but also differs in some ways. The Weirs Beach location has dropped the Flurries distinction, taking on the stand alone title of Surfside Burger Bar. The change in name reflects that the Weirs storefront doesn't serve seafood or ice cream.

“I wanted to see if I could have a restaurant that allowed the specialty burgers and beers to stand alone,” said Fields. “It wanted this restaurant to have its own feel and be unique.”

Some of the most popular burgers of the summer include the Slightly Stoopid burger, which is made with cheddar cheese, bacon, guacamole, french fries and chipotle ranch drizzle. Another burger that has been selling fast is the Hunny Girl, topped with pineapple, teriyaki and honey, provolone and bacon.

“All of the burgers have been named after a famous figure or band that is either from the classic rock or reggae genre,” said Fields. “It all started with a burger that had an egg on top and the yoke burst, so I thought that it should be called Dirty Head. The rest came after that.”

Some of the other burgers names include Beastie Boys and Bob Marley. A full listing of speciality burgers and a drink menu featuring the speciality beers can be found online at www.facebook.com/SurfsideBurgerBar/menu

Those who want to order a burger to go are encouraged to call between 10 and 15 minutes ahead of the order. All orders can be delivered down to the boat docks to customers if the staff is notified ahead of time.

The restaurant is open daily from Sunday through Wednesday noon to 9 p.m., Thursday from noon to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from noon to 1 a.m.
