CONCORD — Rep. Peter Spanos of Laconia was the lone member of the Belknap County Delegation, all of whom are Republicans, and one of 14 Republican representatives to vote not to repeal the state's license requirement to carry a concealed handgun, which carried the New Hampshire House of Representatives 212 to 150 yesterday.
Representatives Glen Aldrich, Russ Dumais and George Hurt of Gilford, Dennis Fields and Brian Gallagher of Sanbornton, Robert Fisher, Bob Luther abd Frank Tilton of Laconia, Valerie Fraser of New Hampton, Ray Howard of Alton, Sheri LeBreche and Michael Sylvia of Belmont and Herb Vadney of Meredith voted with the majority in favor of repeal.
Representatives Guy Comtois of Barnstead, Don Flanders of Laconia, Dave Russell of Gilmanton and Peter Varney of Alton did not vote.
The bill, Senate Bill 116 sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro), carried the Senate by a margin of 14 to 9 in February. Before the House voted Governor Maggie Hassan said she will veto the bill, which was opposed by the law enforcement community. The majorities in both of the House and Senate fell short of the two-thirds required to override the governor's veto.
