LACONIA — The Tuesday meeting of the city school board, the final gathering before the end of the school year later this week, will feature some hiring updates, a report about a new field trip and a discussion of the upcoming search to find the next longterm superintendent.
Amy Hinds, who stepped in as interim superintendent following the recent resignation of Bob Champlin, said the board is expected to decide whether or not to have a consultant from The Bryan Group brief them this summer before the superintendent search begins in earnest.
A subcommittee of the board recently selected The Bryan Group, a consulting firm which works with the New Hampshire School Boards Association, to collect a pool of candidates to lead the district. Hinds said the board will discuss at the meeting whether or not the board would benefit from having a representative of that firm visit to explain their methodology this summer.
Earlier on the agenda is a presentation about a middle school field trip to New York City, which is a new excursion for the school. The trip is intended to further foreign language learning, which was previously accomplished by traveling to Quebec. However, said Hinds, the focus of the language education has shifted away from French and toward Spanish, which led to the change of destination.
Hinds also plans to bring to the board two candidates for hire. She expects to offer candidates for both a fifth grade teacher at Woodland Heights Elementary, and a high school guidance counselor. These hires will follow several others the board has approved at previous meetings.
“We are excited that we are picking away at these vacant positions,” Hinds said.
The board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at the Laconia School District office at 39 Harvard St. The public is welcome to attend and there are opportunities for them to speak.
The last day of the school year for students will be Thursday, and teaching staff will be finishing their work on Friday.
