Midday traffic around the city's busiest intersection was snarled yesterday after a collision resulted in a 1999 Honda Civic rolling over onto its roof. Zachary O. Palombo, 26, of Northfield was trapped in the vehicle for some time and had to be extricated by members of the Fire Department. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lakes Region General Hospital.

Palombo's car sustained major damage but the other two vehicles involved in the accident at South Main Street and Court Street suffered only minor damage. Neither of the other two drivers was injured.

According to a police report, their initial investigation revealed that Palombo was headed south on Main Street at the time of the wreck, 10;42 a.m., and a 2001 GMC box truck driven by Brian Faller, 53, of Gilford was on Court Street. Faller intended to turn right onto South Main Street and was doing so when the collision occurred.

The two vehicles came together with some force, sending the Honda into the left turn lane for northbound traffic on South Main Street, where it collided with a 2000 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Lougee Knox, Jr., 39, of Belmont. The Honda ended, on its roof, back in the southbound lanes.

Police did not indicate which on the two vehicles involved in the initial contact had the right-of-way at the time but they are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the wreck call Officer Jeff Wholley at 524-5257, extension X519 or the main Police Department number at 524-5252.
