A recording-breaking $220,000 was raised by the 1,500 or more participants in the Lakes Region Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk through the neighborhoods of downtown Laconia yesterday.
Equally important, according to event chair Gracie Cilley, “is the fact that at least 100 survivors of breast cancer participated in the walk. That’s a miracle itself.”
Cilley also reported that that the total raised was at least $13,000 more than the amount raised locally from the 2007 walk.
“We are hoping there is more,” she continued. “For those who have not turned it what they have collected from their pledges or who would just like to make a contribution, they can do so by sending their check to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive – Suite 110, Concord, NH 03110-6803. We ask that they indicate that the contribution is from the Greater Lakes Region Event.”
