LACONIA — Police have identified the parties they say were responsible for an exchange of gunfire in the city's South End on Thursday.
Police Chief Matt Canfield said his officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Baldwin and Joliet streets at around 3 p.m. on Thursday. "Upon arrival we found a vehicle that had a round that went through the side window [and] found several other rounds, one of which penetrated the wall of an apartment building," Canfield said.
He said his detectives and patrol staff worked through the night on Thursday and through the day on Friday, and as of 1:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon he felt confident all parties involved in the shooting had been identified. Charges had not yet been filed.
"There was an altercation between two subjects that knew each other that led to an exchange of multiple rounds being fired in the street," Canfield said. "It appears that there were multiple rounds fired, and multiple rounds were fired between two different parties. Basically, they were shooting at each other."
He said the investigation is ongoing.
"It's an extremely scary situation when rounds are being exchanged in an active gunfight in the street," Canfield said. "I just thank God that no one was injured, or worse."
