BRISTOL — Jason Robert, a former administrator, middle school science teacher, and coach, will become principal of Newfound Regional High School on July 1 when the current principal, Paul Hoiriis, assumes the role of superintendent.
Interim Superintendent Steve Nilhas said a school district search committee comprising one member of the Newfound Area School Board, teachers, support staff, community members, a student, and administrators chose Robert at the end of a rigorous interview process. Each of the finalists had the opportunity to engage with the faculty and students at the high school, giving the search committee further feedback during the selection process.
Because it is so close to the end of the school year and the start of another fiscal year, when a delay could mean losing qualified personnel, the school board had conferred hiring authority to Nilhas; as a result, Robert’s appointment did not have to wait for the school board to meet and approve the choice.
Robert, who resides in Hebron with his wife, Vanessa, and four children, Isaac, Isadora, Irianna, and Idina, has been a resident of the Newfound Region for the past 16 years. He earned an undergraduate degree from Keene State College, majoring in elementary education and interdisciplinary science education, before doing graduate work at Southern New Hampshire University, where he earned a master’s degree and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in educational leadership, which led to New Hampshire licensure as a building principal and superintendent.
He most recently served as principal of Lin-Wood Public School (K-12) and held administrative leadership positions in School Administrative Unit 9 at Conway Elementary School and in Madison. Prior to moving into administration, Robert spent 14 years as a middle school science teacher, nine of which took place at Newfound Memorial Middle School. During his time at NMMS, he also coached soccer, track and field, and the Destination Imagination team.
Robert said he is excited to use the next few months to begin building relationships with the staff and students at NRHS. He already has immersed himself in the community, serving as a volunteer in various capacities, including coaching baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer, as well as serving as the former scoutmaster of troops 59 and 59G.
“With two decades of experience in education and a strong commitment to the Newfound community, he brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his new role,” Nilhas said. “His passion for education and dedication to student success have been evident throughout his career.”
Robert said, “I am thrilled to be returning home [to Newfound] as the principal of Newfound Regional High School. The opportunity to lead this exceptional school and continue serving the community that I love is truly an honor. I am eager to work collaboratively with district administration, students, staff, parents, and community members to ensure the success and wellbeing of every student.”
Hoiriis said he joins Nilhas in looking forward to working with Robert during the transition and is excited with the skills and experience Robert brings to the school and the district.
Leaders plan to hold a welcoming meet-and-greet event for the public at the high school soon.
