Nassau Broadcasting has not yet made a decision of which of its eight radio stations based in either Concord or the Lakes Region will carry WEEI (Boston) Sports Radio programming. That word came yesterday from local Nassau General Manager Rob Fulmer in response to a Daily Sun story published on Thursday that stated WEMJ AM 1490 would be the local WEEI outlet.
"We are looking forward to bringing WEEI sports programming to Concord and the Lakes Region and we will announce which station or stations they can listen to it on within the next couple of weeks," said Fulmer.
The Daily Sun story was based on an August 16 press release posted on the New Jersey-based radio company's website that announced the forming of a partnership with WEEI's owner, Entercom, whereby 11 of Nassau's stations in New England would carry "the programming content of Entercom's WEEI Sports Radio". The statement goes on to indicate that the agreement would provide WEEI programing in several different New England markets served by Nassau stations, including Portland, Maine and Concord/Lakes Region New Hampshire. It does not specifically mention WEMJ or any other station.
Word that WEMJ would be the local WEEI outlet was gained from an independent website called North East Radio Watch, which Fulmer characterized as an online blog devoted to radio insider news and speculation.
The announcement of the deal between Nassau, which owns 53 stations in New England and the mid-Altantic states and national giant Intercom did not indicate a date when programming would change. Indeed, it characterized the agreement at this point as a "letter of understanding".
WEEI is the radio home of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics and broadcasts sports programming around the clock. It is affiliated with Fox Sports Radio.
Nassau's flagship station in this area is Gilford-based WLNH 98.3 FM. It also operates two classic rock stations it refers to as "The Hawk" (101.5 FM and 102.3 FM) and two "oldies stations" (104.9 FM and 99.1 FM). WEMJ offers a talk radio format, beginning weekdays with Pat Kelly's "Lakes Region Local" from 6 to 9 a.m. and then going on to pick up syndicated programs featuring radio personalities such as Rush Limbaugh, Howie Carr and Dr. Joy Browne.
