LACONIA — Police have identified 70-year-old Holly Fregin of Manchester, Connecticut, as the motorcyclist killed in a head-on collision on North Main Street Monday.

Fregin, who was wearing a helmet, was riding alongside a friend when she suddenly veered across the centerline and into a large SUV, according to Police Chief Matthew Canfield. Neither the automobile operator nor the other motorcyclist were injured.

Medical examiner and accident reconstruction results have not yet been released, Canfield said Friday, and so what might have caused Fregin to swerve, such as a distraction or a medical emergency, remains unknown.

A Tuesday Facebook post by the Connecticut Employees Union Independent honored Fregin, who had worked at the organization’s front desk for 12 years before her retirement in 2019.

“Yesterday we lost a charismatic, loving and dedicated union sister,” the post reads.

“We will forever miss her visits as her Harley rumbled into our driveway to tell us of her adventures of a well-deserved retirement. Her huge smile, sense of humor, and willingness to go above and beyond will be missed by all of us. She died doing what she loved, riding her motorcycle.”
