GILFORD — Kimball Road Extension is now known as Recycle Way.

Selectmen on Wednesday night accepted the road as a Class V highway that the town will maintain. Town Administrator Scott Dunn said the board approved the layout of the road following a public hearing.

Selectmen also voted to accept a $191,047 grant from the state Department of Transportation that is part of a $30 million supplemental distribution of highway funds for road improvement projects. That decision also followed a public hearing, as required by law.

Dunn said selectmen plan to use the money for Phase 2 of the Belknap Mountain Road project that was on the schedule for next year, as well as some minor work they were unable to complete for lack of money this year.

• Other business on Wednesday included the approval of two promotions in the Gilford Police Department, one for patrol sergeant and one for deputy chief. Police intend to announce those promotions during a swearing-in ceremony for a new full-time officer on Monday.

• Selectmen approved a revised schedule from the engineers for the transfer/recycling center. The project was held up while awaiting a resolution to the question of what to do with a sandpile on adjacent property owned by the City of Laconia.

• Selectmen also made another appointment to the sign review committee, choosing Larry Routhier to serve and leaving only one position to be filled.

• The town will hold a public hearing before acting on a request from MetroCast Cablevision to transfer the town’s cable television franchise to Atlantic Broadband, the company planning to acquire MetroCast in January. Selectmen did not want to make a decision without providing an opportunity for residents to weigh in on the request.
