William B. Crowley, the Gilford Elementary teacher who was indicted on May 19 on one cout of Aggravated Felonious Sexual Assault; one count of Felonious Sexual Assault; and one count of Simple Assault On A Child, will be going to trial in early September.
At a pre-trial hearing yesterday in Belknap Superior Court, jury selection was set for September 6, 2005 — the Tuesday following Labor Day. The actual trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on September 7, and according to court records, is expected to take two days.
Crowley has been free on a $25,000 surety bond since the first of June after having been arrested in April and charged with sexually assaulting an eleven-year-old boy.
Because of the alleged victim's age and concerns about his rights to privacy, the court has appointed Laconia attorney Jim Carroll to serve as his Guardian Ad Litem. "The minor child has an interest in the prosecution of this case, including his assertion of rights of privacy, which may be independent from the interests of the state in prosecuting the defendant," the court found in making the appointment.
