Douglas Jenot, 23, of Gilmanton was convicted by a Superior Court jury yesterday of two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, theft by unauthorized taking and burglary, all charges stemming from his part in a home invasion and brutal rape of a young Laconia woman in April 2004. He will be sentenced at a later date.
In May 2005 Jenot's cousin, Stephen Goupil, 24, who was convicted on five counts of aggravated felonious assault, one count of theft and two counts of burglary, was sentenced to a minimum of 35 years and a maximum of 76 years in prison for his part in the heinous crime.
Jenot's trial, more than two years after the incident occurred, was delayed when questions were raised about his competence to stand trial. Although there was no DNA evidence linking Jenot to the crime, his six-page handwritten confession was read aloud to the court and it corresponded to the testimony of the victim in significant respects and details.
