HAVERHILL — Roger A. Champagne, 54, of 97 Cooper Road, Hebron, is facing a special felony charge of aggravated felonious sexual assault following his indictment on Jan. 19 by a Grafton County Superior Court Grand Jury.
The indictment also includes the Class B felony charge of second-degree assault for allegedly strangling his victim on Dec. 5, 2017.
Champagne also faces Class A misdemeanor charges of criminal threatening for allegedly drawing back his fist and bringing it toward the victim’s face, and saying, “I could bash your head into the chimney,” as well as simple assault charges for pulling her hair and throwing her to the floor during the encounter.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but an independent jury’s decision, after hearing from police, that sufficient evidence exists to warrant a court trial.
Also indicted during the January session was John Nesteruk, 48, of 115 Currier Road, Hill, on Class B felony charges of second-degree assault and three counts of reckless conduct.
Police allege that, on Aug. 22, 2015, Nesteruk drove his vehicle in such a way that he lost control as he entered Dartmouth College Highway from Horse Meadow Road in Haverhill, causing it to cross into the opposite lane and collide with another vehicle, with both cars going off the road and resulting in fractures to the left foot and the T3 vertebrae of a female passenger in the other vehicle.
