ASHLAND — The driver of a car which caught fire after being involved in a crash on Interstate 93 died early Sunday morning. The accident is currently under investigation by State Police.

According to a media release from State Police Troop F, at 2:44 a.m. on Oct. 12, dispatch received a report of a vehicle on fire near the woods about a mile south of Exit 24. Troopers responded to the scene and found the vehicle, a 2003 Nissan Sentra, engulfed in flames.

A preliminary investigation at the scene found the driver of the Nissan was traveling south on I-93. The vehicle went off the road to the right, crashed, then caught fire. The driver died at the scene. Police have not identified the driver publicly until the family is notified.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.

Assisting State Police were the Ashland Fire Department and Plymouth Fire and Rescue.

“All aspects of the crash remain under investigation,” said Tyler Dumont, spokesperson for State Police. “We do not have any further information to provide beyond our news release at this time.”
