Curtis Mailloux named GPD Officer of the Year

GILFORD — Police feted their own Wednesday night with a public awards ceremony followed by a barbecue in the back of the station.

Curtis Mailloux was named Officer of the Year for being the member of the department who exemplifies daily what being a member of Gilford Police Department represents — hard work, integrity and a dedication to the community and to the department. Mailloux has been recognized by his supervisors and the community for going above and beyond expectations.

Sgt. Corey O'Connor was recognized as the Supervisor of the Year. Chief Anthony Bean Burpee said O'Connor was someone who cares about his duties, the officers under his command and who goes about his job with solid performance and without always getting the praise he deserves.

Officer Kevin Baron was recognized for pro-active policing for being outstanding in his consistent patrol techniques. Baron is the department's motorcycle officer and also assists in teaching the annual class.

For dedication to the Gilford Police Department and constantly volunteering their time without being asked and for their assistance in getting the job done, Bean Burpee recognized Dispatcher Cherlene Crowell and Officer James Callahan.

The department's Leadership Award went to Sgt. Dustin Parent and K-9 Officer Adam Vansteensburg for supporting their peers, supervisors and subordinated during difficult times.

The Teamwork Award went to SRO Denise Parker who by her very nature exhibits a willingness and an ability to be one of the more versatile officers in the department.

The Community Service Award went to Sgt. Christopher Jacques and Sgt. Eric Bredbury who consistently go to schools, community events, crime prevention programs and participate in other non-departmental groups with benefit the entire community.

The chief's personal recognition went to Technical Assistant Kim Horan and Executive Secretary Tessa Stevens who, in his opinion, have consistently gone above and beyond in assisting the department and him in its everyday operations.

There were seven unit awards that went to officers and dispatchers who participated in the arrest of N.Y fugitive Ronald Jacques, who had a criminal record that included manslaughter for shooting someone in a drug deal; to the team that broke up a 75-person strong under-aged drinking party with the assistance of the Alton Police Department; for the team that did the seven-month investigation that led to the arrest of Douglas Fisher who allegedly broke down the door of a woman's room in the Margate Resort and raped her; for team that while working in conjunction with the FBI and the Virginia State Police arrested Derek Emans who allegedly threatened to blow up the Manchester Boston Airport; for the team that arrested two burglary suspects after tracking them through the woods; for the team that led to the conviction of Corey Cromwell for arson in Gilford and receiving stolen property from Laconia and for the team involved in the Adam Scarsilloni arrest.

Meritorious Service awards went to Parent and Mailloux for tracking burglary suspects through the snow at night to catch them; to Callahan, VanSteensburg and K9-Ike, for pursuing a combative subject into the woods and arresting him; and to Jacques and Parker for their work in investigating and arresting an alleged rapist and for continuing to work with the victim and her family while she recovers.
