LACONIA — The Belknap County Delegation’s Executive Committee will meet Friday to consider the county treasurer’s request to borrow money while they wait for taxes to be paid.
The meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, at the Belknap County Complex, 34 County Drive.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider the treasurer’s request to borrow up to $16 million in anticipation of taxes for calendar year 2026. The county delegation approved the county budget during a meeting on Feb. 4, and the budget includes about $16 million in spending. Â
The delegation comprises all those elected to represent Belknap County at the Statehouse. Its executive committee includes Reps. Harry Bean (R-Gilford), Steven Bogert (R-Laconia), Mike Bordes (R-Laconia), Juliet Harvey-Bolia (R-Tilton), and Charlie St. Clair (D-Laconia).Â
The meeting is open to the public and is also streamed live on YouTube. Â
Belknap County borrows annually in anticipation of taxes to be received regularly. Tax anticipation notes are used to fund the daily operations of the county until property taxes are received at the end of the year. The county operates on a different calendar than some municipalities.Â
In a meeting in January 2025, the county delegation’s executive committee approved the treasurer’s request to borrow $16 million in anticipation of taxes for calendar year 2025.
