BELMONT — The town’s Police Department has announced a series of staff promotions which will take effect at the end of the month.

Lt. Richard Mann will be promoted to captain, Sgt. Stephen Akerstrom to master sergeant, Cpl. Evan Boulanger to sergeant, and Detective Raechel Moulton to detective sergeant.

These promotions coincide with the department’s Chief Mark Lewandoski moving to a part-time role.

Mann, who is second in command of the department, supervises detectives, dispatch, school resource officers, on duty officers and evidence technicians. Mann will now also assume responsibility for all day-to-day operations of the agency. He will be assigned additional administrative duties and responsibilities as well as continuing to be the department’s media liaison representative. An Air Force veteran, Mann has worked for the town since 1993.

As master sergeant, Akerstrom will be third in charge of the agency. Akerstrom will be the operations commander and will directly supervise the patrol division which includes bicycle patrol. He will be assisted in that task by a sergeant and a corporal. Akerstrom has worked for the town since 2002 when he came from the Gilmanton Police Department.

As sergeant, Boulanger will be fourth in charge of the agency. He will continue to be the department’s K-9 officer and in addition assume the responsibilities of the assistant operations commander supervising patrol. Boulanger has worked for the town since 2008 when he came from the Gilmanton Police Department. Both Boulanger and his K-9 partner, Vito, also serve with the Belknap Regional Special Operations Team.

Moulton will be fifth in command. As supervising detective she will oversee agency investigations, crime scene response, evidence collection and supervise other detectives. The promotion allows her to lend a hand supervising patrols. Moulton has worked for the town since 2005 when she came from the Pembroke Police Department.

A public swearing-in ceremony for those being promoted is scheduled for Friday, March 30, at 11:30 a.m. at the Corner Meeting House on Fuller Street.
