After being tracked through the woods by police K-9 Jago, a Massachusetts man has been arrested and charged with assault.

According to police, an assault was reported at about 10:10 p.m. on Saturday at the Hack Ma Tack Campground off Rte. 2, just south of the Meredith town line. Responding officers found that Jonathan Gannon, 23, of Hudson, had been punched in the face by an unidentified man who then fled through the campground. Gannon suffered serious injuries to his face and was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital for treatment.

Officer Mike Finogle, working with Jago and assisted by other officers, tracked the trail of the suspect. The trail led through the campground then into the woods near Hayes Road, then along Route 3 to the area near the entrance to the Meredith Bay residential development between Funspot and Cedar Lodge.

Jago's nose led officers to a man who was attempting to conceal himself in the woods. The suspect was later identified as Gregg Worrell of Braintree, Mass., who was being held at Belknap County Jail pending release on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. He has been charged with second degree assault.
