Thomas LaBrecque, 66, of Sanbornton, left, caught the largest black crappie of the weekend on Saturday at Cawley Pond in Sanbornton during the Great Meredith Rotary Fishing Derby. LaBrecque, pictured with his wife, Lisa, won the $15,000 grand prize at the fishing derby headquarters on Meredith Bay on Sunday afternoon. LaBrecque's black crappie weighed in at 2.52 pounds, and 17.125 inches long. This is the first time LaBrecque got a fish on the board in his almost 40 years participating in the derby. A retired contractor, LaBrecque plans to use the prize to buy more fishing gear. LaBrecque’s fish was not the largest at the derby. That achievement goes to Richard Villandry of Londonderry and his lake trout, caught Sunday and weighing 16.61 pounds, 36.25 inches long. (Daniel Sarch/The Laconia Daily Sun photo)
