NEW HAMPTON — A Massachusetts driver sustained minor injuries in a box truck crash over the weekend.
Moments before 4:30 a.m. Saturday, State Police dispatchers received calls about a box truck off the roadway on Interstate 93 northbound, just before Exit 23 in New Hampton. Troopers from the Troop D barracks responded and located the vehicle, a yellow 2012 Hino 258/268, in the trees in the median.
According to the results of their preliminary investigation, troopers identified the driver as Anilton Resende Barros, 21, of Brockton, Massachusetts, and determined he was traveling northbound on I-93 when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a curve.
The truck traveled straight into the median, went over the crossover between lanes, struck an embankment and “launched” into a group of trees where it stopped, according to a New Hampshire State Police release.
Barros suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The left lanes of I-93 northbound and southbound were closed at Exit 23 for about four hours for cleanup. All lanes were opened back up just before 9 a.m. on Sept. 13.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper John Zavala at John.A.Zavala@dos.nh.gov.
