LACONIA — A local man received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to being part of a shoplifting scheme.
Joseph N. Raso, 36, of Spring Street, in Laconia, pleaded guilty in Belknap Superior Court Tuesday to two counts of theft by deception.
Judge Tina Nadeau sentenced Raso to 12 months in the House of Correction in each count with all the time suspended on condition of two years good behavior. The two sentences will run consecutively, meaning if he commits a crime in the next four years, prosecutors could ask a judge to impose House of Correction sentence. Nadeau also ordered Raso to pay $198.42 in restitution to Walmart and serve one year of probation.
According to court documents, Raso committed the thefts in company with Robert J. Gebo, who allegedly used old receipts to return merchandise that he had selected from the store that same day and not previously paid for.
