GILFORD — Police responded to an apparent bomb threat hoax at Shaw’s Supermarket Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the New Hampshire Department of Safety confirmed the response was related to a series of apparent hoax bomb threats made to Shaw’s Supermarkets in New Hampshire and Massachusetts on Wednesday, one of which was in Gilford.

Shaw’s locations in Hooksett and North Hampton also received threats.

“The Department of Safety is aware of numerous bomb threats targeting Shaw’s Supermarkets around the state. New Hampshire State Police is assisting local law enforcement agencies with the response and investigation into those calls. The New Hampshire Information and Analysis Center is assisting by sharing information between local, state, and federal agencies,” a NH DOS statement reads. “At this time, these reports are believed to be a hoax. However, all threats will be taken seriously until their validity is determined. Everyone is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agency or 911.”

Gilford police did not immediately return a request for information.
