What a game changer! The Territory Freeze was won for the first time on The Floor on May 13. Find out who won it and what it entails.

The “game-changing twist” was announced on the Season 5 premiere of the Fox game show. Eric won the Territory Freeze, which marked the halfway point of the game. 50 people started out the episode, but only 42 made it through the end of the night.

The Territory Freeze is the new twist for this season. In episode one, host Rob Lowe explained that whichever contestant wins the most duels by mid-season earns the freeze. They can only be chosen again when everyone has duelled at least once, which is almost a guaranteed spot in the finale.

This gives him more time to study up on his category. But the freeze does not guarantee him a win, just a spot in the finals.

“That means, halfway through the season, whoever has the most territory is safe,” he said. “No one can go after them.”

Eric and Kristen had each won five duels by this point in the game. The contestants who played on Wednesday had to either win six duels or take out Kristen or Eric to win the advantage. The Territory Freeze would only be given to the contestants who volunteered to be picked by the randomizer. The others were safe from taking on a big responsibility.

The last dueler of the episode was Jess. She won two duels and got to choose who she wanted to face off against. She did not choose Eric because she was “in an alliance with him.” This meant Eric won the Territory Freeze. Many contestants were angry because she could have taken Eric down and won it herself. She instead faced off against Morgan in “Crochet Items” and lost the duel.

Eric had eight pieces of the floor frozen. “I guess they’re going to call me Ice Man now,” he said. “I’ve done the math. This should take me to the finals.”

At the beginning of the season, some contestants revealed that the contestants on the outside of the floor had all made an alliance with each other. Jess seemed to stick with that, and it cost her the game in the end.

Find out how it all plays out on the game show Wednesdays on Fox.
