Scrubs is officially coming back to TV as ABC ordered a revival of the hit comedy revolving around Dr. John Dorian (Zach Braff). Since the show’s return was announced, other exciting details have emerged, including a first-look photo at the table read for the premiere episode.

Rumors about a revival surfaced in late 2024, and after Braff’s casting was announced, several other original stars were unveiled to be reprising their roles as well. As they gear up to check back into Sacred Heart Hospital, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about Scrubs‘ return so far. Scroll down for a closer look and stay tuned for updates as they emerge.

Who stars in the Scrubs revival?

Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke have all signed deals to return and reprise their roles as doctors, JD, Turk, Christopher Turk, and Elliot Reid, respectively. And after months of rumors and discussions about Judy Reyes‘ return as Carla Espinosa, Turk’s wife and nurse at Sacred Heart. Reyes’ participation in the revival was officially confirmed by Deadline, which announced she’ll return in a recurring guest star capacity. Reyes currently features in ABC’s hit series High Potential, in which she costars alongside Kaitlin Olson.

Meanwhile, fan-favorite Dr. Cox is also scrubbing back in, as it was announced by Variety that John C. McGinley would reprise his role as a recurring guest star. Fans got a taste of the impending reunions as ABC unveiled its first table read photo of the stars and creator Bill Lawrence gathered for the occasion. See it, above.

When will the Scrubs revival premiere?

It’s unclear when this revival will actually begin airing, but for now, it is slated to broadcast within the 2025-2026 television season. As Reyes told TV Insider exclusively, filming was likely to begin in October 2025, which means the show is most likely to arrive in the Midseason as it won’t make the traditional fall slate.

What is the Scrubs revival about?

The Scrubs revival follows JD and Turk as they scrub in together for the first time in a long time, according to the logline shared by Deadline. In the years since viewers last saw them, medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has continued to stand the test of time. As characters both new and old navigate the day-to-day at Sacred Heart, they’ll do so with laughter, heart, and a few surprises along the way.

Scrubs originally ran on NBC for seven seasons from 2001 to 2008, until it moved to ABC for two additional seasons, airing from 2009 to 2010. Over the course of its run, Scrubs earned six Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Zach Braff in 2005.

Who is making the Scrubs revival?

Original series creator Bill Lawrence is back at the helm, serving as executive producer alongside Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, who have been tapped as showrunners. Additionally, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer will executive produce the show, with the latter two working under Lawrence’s production company, Doozer. Both Hobert and Batra are Scrubs vets as they wrote on the original series and served in additional roles on the flagship.
