Wayne Brunt, 86, of Meredith and Barefoot Bay, Florida, passed away on Jan. 20, 2024, at Concord Hospital-Laconia after a period of declining health.

Born in Ashland to William and Dorothy Brunt, Wayne lived a full life in the lakes and mountains of New Hampshire. He graduated from Ashland High School and continued his education throughout his life.

After high school, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of airman second class, while serving in the fledgling Strategic Air Command in various locations, such as San Antonio, Texas; Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; England and Guam.

After his military service, Wayne had a great career as a New Hampshire State Trooper and was a member of the NHSP Dive team (Search/Rescue/Recovery), the NHSP Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), NHSP K9 handler for search and rescue with his Beulah Belle bloodhound, along with many other special units in his over 21 years of service.

Upon his retirement with the state of New Hampshire, Wayne indulged his entrepreneurial spirit and started Brunt Septic Service and was a successful businessman for over 30 years. He built and operated Sugarbear’s Sugar House, boiling the maple “gold” as he called it. He operated a custom sawmill, trapped nuisance animals for the NHF&G, and hunted and fished throughout the Northeast, Montana and Colorado. It’s safe to say, and understate, that Wayne lived a full life, meeting many friends along the way.

Wayne was predeceased in life by his parents, his beloved wife Pat, brothers Billy, Bobby and Dickie, and sister Janie. He is survived by Brian (Donna), Chris (Laura), Lisa (Rick) and their children and grandchildren, Brother Jim (Wanda), sisters Terry (Ed), Dottie, Heidi (Phil) along with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held later in the spring in Meredith for his family and close friends. His family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Lakes Region VNA for the service and selfless devotion to Wayne over the last couple of months.

Donations may be made in his name to the Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association, 186 Waukewan St., Meredith, NH 03253, lrvna.org.

Almost 16 years ago I met Wayne as I purchased his septic business. He helped me out hugely for 3 months while I was acquiring my CDL license, he rode around with me daily and showed me the area. Through the years he and Patty would occasionally dog sit for me, they even took my dog on tour over to the Maine coast one time without me knowing about it, they loved his company. I occasionally got to go hunting with him as well. Wayne had terrible luck with the Maine game wardens over the years getting a fishing fine and hunting fine once, he was quite aggravated with both those ordeals. I wish give condolences to the whole Brunt clan. I will miss the ole boy.
