Shirley E. Burdett, 93
LACONIA — Shirley Elizabeth Burdett, 93, of Maitland, Florida, and formerly of Laconia, died in her sleep Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia.
Shirley was born on Oct. 28, 1922, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Henry Irving and Elizabeth Madeline (Jones) Nisbett.
She attended Burdett College in Boston, and worked for General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts, during World War. She then moved to Laconia in 1949 after marriage to John Damon Burdett, who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2002, after 53 years of marriage.
She enjoyed her summers on Crystal Lake in Gilmanton Iron Works, and winters at Lake Maitland Terrace, in Maitland, Florida, where she was active for years in social doubles tennis.
She always loved a good game of cribbage, singing, reading and showing off her grandchildren.
In addition to her late husband, Shirley was predeceased by three brothers, Henry Irving Nisbett, Richard Earl Nisbett and Philip Norman Nisbett.
She is survived by her two sons, Peter Scott Burdett and his wife Susan Connell Burdett of Bow, and Robert Mark Burdett of Gilmanton Iron Works; one sister, Eleanor Jessie Nisbett of Haverhill, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Rebekah Joy Baker of Clermont, Florida, Deborah Faith Schumacher of Kingsland, Georgia, John Daniel Burdett of Portsmouth, and Thomas Peter Burdett of San Diego; four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be private.
