BRADENTON, Fla. — Richard Paul Hoey passed away in Bradenton, Fla, on June 2, 2015. Born in Laconia on July 13, 1956, he was 58. Son of Raymond Albert Hoey and Elizabeth (Fogg) Hoey, Rick left Laconia High School to enlist in the US Navy for six years. He proudly served until 1981. During two tours he served mostly on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in the Mediterranean and was a recruiter in Massachusetts. While in the Navy he completed his GED and earned an Associates degree in aviation electronics, his specialty.
Rick grew up in Laconia and in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Rick always hated NH winters and moved to Bradenton, Florida, where his email "nosno" was very fitting. In Bradenton, he was close to his Hoey grandparents and other relatives. He spent a lot of time on the beach and golfing. He enjoyed Caribbean cruises, returning often to St. Thomas. Rick was always at the St. Thomas Bacchanal, an event in Florida geared to people with links to the island. Steel drum music played as he died.
Rick is survived by a special friend, Diane Cass, and cousin Judy Kimball, along with his six brothers and sisters; Kathleen and Jim Lavoie of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Jane Kidder of Laconia, Laurence Hoey of Laconia, William "Bill" Hoey of Belmont, Peter and Laurie Hoey of Gilford, Ann and Peter Dutile of Belmont, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Laconia over the summer.
