LACONIA — Micheal “Mike” Kent Alexander, 76, of Laconia, died on Nov. 29, 2024, at the Genesis Laconia Rehabilitation Center, after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Mike was born on Oct. 11, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Gene and Ada Mae (Ewing) Alexander.
After high school, Mike enrolled in the armed forces as a member of the 82nd Airborne.
Mike met his wife Kathleen “Jane” Drake shortly afterwards and the couple relocated to Laconia, where their two children Heather Lee and Ryan Micheal were born.
Mike was a free spirit who enjoyed any work he could do with his hands. Whether it was working with wood or tinkering with engines, he was a genuine jack-of-all-trades. He was a member of multiple pool leagues, earning himself the title “Pool Daddy.” He was happiest playing his harmonica around a campfire surrounded by loved ones. Mike easily made friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mike spent most of his life on the West Coast, but he permanently relocated to the Lakes Region and reunited with his two children and five grandchildren in 2015.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was working on a truck with his son Ryan, playing darts with his oldest grandson Kodie, arm wrestling with his youngest Trevor, camping with his oldest granddaughters Mahala and Emma-Jade, throwing a football around or fishing with his youngest granddaughter Emma June, or playing cards and/or dice while telling stories of his life’s adventures over coffee (black with just “a splash of sugar”) after a home cooked meal made by his daughter Heather or daughter-in-law Sarah.
Mike is survived by his daughter Heather Alexander, of Laconia; son Ryan Alexander and his wife Sarah, of Meredith; two grandsons Kodie Glover, of Laconia, and Trevor Alexander of Meredith; three granddaughters Mahala LaDuke and her partner Jacob Jameson, of Franklin, Emma-Jade LaDuke, of Manchester, and Emma June Alexander, of Meredith; one great-grandson Ty Lee Jameson, of Franklin; two sisters, Sue LaMatry and Ginger Welch; four nieces, Holly Alexander, Myrna LaMatry, Cindy LaMatry, and Vicki Walters; six nephews Ronald Welch Jr., Troy Welch, Tim Welch, Matt Welch, Scott Alexander, and Brian Alexander; and many great-nieces, nephews and friends. Mike was predeceased by both his parents and his brothers James LaMatry and Leejay Alexander.
We know “This ain’t nothing but a thing,” but until we see you again Dad, we will “Keep on, keeping on.”
Special thanks to Genesis Laconia Rehabilitation Center (especially Montana) for their care of Mike the last couple months.
There will be no services at this time.
