DANBURY — John W. Davis Sr. passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at home with his family by his side after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Boston on Oct. 1, 1947, to John Davis and Dorothy (Phealan). John was one of 8 children.Â
John met the love of his life, Christine Brown, and they were married on Jan. 13, 1967. They lived in Boston and had five children. John worked as a general contractor. In 1985 they pulled up roots and moved to Danbury, where they remained until 1998, when he built his log cabin by himself in Alexandria.Â
He was an avid reader and loved the Boston Red Sox, music, concerts and being outdoors. Annually on his birthday, he would take a hike up to Mt. Cardigan in Alexandria. John and Christine loved to spend time with family hosting Halloween parties, barbecues, etc. John spent the last 20 years working for Stoppe Management/Walk to Campus in Plymouth. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, reading, stained glass and creating his unique terrariums.Â
John and Christine enjoyed special occasions with family at their favorite watering hole, The Bridgewater Inn in Bridgewater, including their 50th wedding anniversary.Â
John is survived by and will be deeply missed by his children John (Jayne), Richard, Michael, Theresa and Kristine and stepdaughter Jen Whelan; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers Robert (Joan), Richard and William, and sisters Carol Hart (Tom), Dorothy Hartshorn, Patricia Sprague (Chris) and Linda Mayle; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife Christine (2019) and a grandson Izik (2011).
As per John’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. There will be a celebration of life in the summer.
The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is assisting the family with arrangements.Â
For those who wish, the family suggests memorial donations be made in John’s memory to Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice, 107 Newport Road, New London, NH 03257.
