TILTON — Jeannette “Jan” Alice Anne Atherton, 90, of Atherton Hill Road, passed away on Nov. 13, 2025, at Concord Hospital-Laconia.
Jan was born on Feb. 6, 1935, in Ashland, the daughter of Stephen Edwin Gray and Alexina (Dion) Gray.
Jan worked as a short-order cook for Weeks Dairy Bar for over 35 years. She was in the Ladies Guild. Jan enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, cooking and having tea parties. Jan loved her family dearly and always enjoyed attending the Gray family gatherings. She loved her grand-, great-grand-, and great-great-grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her loving husband Walter Atherton; sons Wilfred Lamontagne, Donald Lamontagne and his wife Marcia, Jon Lamontagne and his wife Donna, and Henry Lamontagne; stepson Scott Atherton and his wife Stacey; daughters Bridget Elliott and her husband Ben, and Brenda Nelson and her husband Todd; stepdaughter Stephanie Atherton; brother James Gray; sisters Lillian Watson and her husband Richard, and Yvonne DuPont; grandchildren Stacie, Sarah, Kelli, Stephanie, Eric, Jasmine, Justin, Haley, Samantha, Amanda, Chelsea, Jason, Mindy, Jessica, Ashley, Kristen, Brian, Cody, Jacob, Kaley, Kelsey, Cameron, Erin, Skylar and Jackson; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jan is predeceased by her sons Stephen Lamontagne and Ronald Lamontagne; sisters Lorraine Dargy, Alexina Azotea and Priscilla LeClaire; brothers Edwin Gray and Clifford Gray.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Carriage House at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at St. Andre Bessette Paris-Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave., Laconia.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, at Union Cemetery, Laconia.
