LACONIA — Elizabeth "Betty" Shurbert, 93, died peacefully on the morning of Nov. 20, 2025, surrounded by love.

She was born Elizabeth Lucetta Coutermarsh in Plainfield, on July 28, 1932. After graduating from Bristol High School, she moved to Laconia, where she met and married Frederick M. Shurbert Sr. on Dec. 20, 1951. They enjoyed 52 years together before his passing in 2003.

Betty started Hill Top Nursery School in her Gilford home when her sons were young and taught for several years.

She and her husband Fred owned and operated Lakes Region Transit for over 35 years until retiring and moving to the Taylor Community. Betty enjoyed painting, quilting and traveling with her Fred all over the country in their RV.

Betty had a quick wit, infectious smile, and a generous spirit. She was truly loved by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her grandson Carter Hans Lobel (1985), her husband Fred (2003), her daughter Cynthia Lobel (2010) and her son Frederick Jr. (2022).

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Mickey Bouffard, son-in-law and wife Robert and Sharon Lobel, daughter-in-law Katrina Shurbert, son and daughter-in-law Bill and Joanne Shurbert; her grandchildren, Linda Waller, Jolene Ayala, Jonathan Lobel (Lisa), Beata Belfield (Daniel), Mandy Lobel, Erica Lobel, Peter Lobel, Frederick Mitchell Shurbert III, Christianna Houston (Roice), Ian Shurbert (Bethany), and Miaya Shurbert (fiancé Jarrod). She was also blessed with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, she will be missed by her “adopted” daughter Merrie Dunbar and dear friend Joan Kenney.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, in the Carriage House at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St.
