BELMONT — Elaine E. Fortin, 67, of 8 High Street, died April 17, 2003 in the St. Francis Home in Laconia after a brief illness. She was born in Laconia on January 19, 1936, the daughter of Ernest Edmund and Regina Clorida (Clairmont) Fortin.
She was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School. She earned her degree at Plymouth State Teachers College.
She began her teaching career in Nome, Alaska and after a short while returned to reside in Belmont while she taught in the Laconia School System for more than thirty years. Miss Fortin taught in several schools including Elm St., Woodland Heights and Memorial Middle School.
Elaine enjoyed traveling and her love of the area caused her to return to Nome, Alaska for a visit in 1985. She was very interested in genealogy and was an avid gardener.
Family members include a brother, Ernest E. Fortin, of Gilford; and two nieces, Robin Moyer of Winnisquam and Jennifer Lacey of Belmont.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Parish, Church St., Belmont on Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia. Memorial donations may be made to the Clairmont Scholarship Fund, c/o Roberta Bilodeau, 43 Dearborn St., Belmont, NH 03220. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber are the funeral directors.
