Douglas A. McKinnon, 66

WENTWORTH — Douglas Alan McKinnon passed away at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018.

Douglas was born in Plymouth on Feb. 27, 1952, to Donald G. and Muriel G. Mc-Kinnon. Doug, as he was known, graduated from Plymouth High School in 1970 where he played a variety of sports, but his passion was playing football. His team called him “The Scat Man” and during his tenure at PHS he was selected to play in the famous Shrine Bowl game.

A few years after graduation, Doug moved to Oregon where he worked for 15 years as a lumber grader for Gregory Forest. While in Oregon, Doug’s passion became playing pool. He won many tournaments and was captain of a league team that won the championship for five years undefeated. Doug got the nickname “Pilgrim” because they all thought he was from Plymouth Rock not Plymouth, New Hampshire. Being the type of person he was, he never corrected them.

In 1985, he met his future wife, Marcia, and they were married in 1991. Doug helped Marcia find the same passion in playing pool. He was a very patient teacher, and a master at helping her hone her skills. During these years, Doug and Marcia became lifetime soulmates.

In 1993, they moved back to his roots: Plymouth. They bought a property in Wentworth in 1995.  During this time, Doug worked for an additional 12 years for John King of King Forest Industries.

Doug and Marcia continued their passion of pool. They played on leagues, and in many tournaments. Doug inspired many pool players and helped them reach their goals. It was through this he met Ron Boucher of Tavern Players Magazine and was with Ron from the very beginning of TPM.

Doug also joined a Sunday League and played for Pat Patten on The Rod & Gun Rednecks. Their team won the championship for six years and went to the nationals in Las Vegas a few times which, at the time, is where his son, Michael McKinnon, lived with his wife and three children. Doug loved the chance to see his son and spend time with his grandchildren.

Doug and Marcia worked hand-in-hand to make their property a showplace known as Freedom Dogs where they have cared for and boarded many. Doug was also a member of Plymouth Elks, Laconia VFW and Laconia Rod & Gun Club.

Doug was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dean McKinnon.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Long McKinnon; his son, Mike McKinnon, his wife, Brandi, and their three children, Liam, Lucas and Alice of Patterson, California; as well as his predeceased brother’s children, Kelsey and her husband, Adam Donnelly, of Holderness and their children, Kelina and Gwendalyn and Naomi McKinnon, and her children, Jacob, Leon and Kara, and his sisters, Diane and her husband, Russell Newberry, of Campton, and their children, Crystal, and her husband, Chris White (children Taylor, Mya and Ella), Heidi Newberry and her wife, Carole Lee, Darlene Manning of Hampton, and her children, Maggie and her husband, A.J. Camlin (children Troy and McKayla), Kyle and his wife, Haley Towle (child Charlie), Cindy and her husband, Chris McGuigan of Plainsboro, New Jersey, and their children, Katy and her husband, Chris Shaw (child Kayliana), Kelly and her husband ,Mike Mazzucca, and Christana.
