Donald W. Smith, 73

LACONIA — Donald W. Smith, 73, of 765 Union Ave., died on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Laconia Rehabilitation Center.

Donald was born in Columbia, the son of George and Lillian (Higgins) Smith. He had been a resident of Laconia since the early 1950s.

Donald worked with his brothers for many years as a carpenter, and also did maintenance work for Melcher & Prescott Insurance.

Donald is survived by one son, Steven Smith of Laconia; a grandchild, Ashley Hatch and her husband, Brendan, of Weare; four brothers, Gordon, Bill, Howard and Roland and a sister, Regina Sweatt.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son, Michael Smith, in 2007; and by four brothers and one sister.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held in the spring.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Laconia Rehabilitation Center for their kind and compassionate care of Donald.
