Bruce S. Symington, 80, of Bernardston Road, Greenfield, Massachusetts, died Nov. 11, 2025, at home. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Sept. 5, 1945, the son of Sheldon and June (Sparrow) Symington.

Bruce served in the United States Army, spending time in Greenland, and 19 months in Vietnam, before being honorably discharged in 1969.

He was an operating engineer for Pike Industries in New Hampshire, for 16 years, and then Lane Construction in Massachusetts, for 27 more years.

Bruce was an avid fan of cars and motorcycles, especially Formula 1 racing. His best times were on his Harley or his Porsche going for a ride anywhere. He collected model cars and loved camping, gardening and sitting around the campfire with friends and family. Bruce was a lifelong learner of tae kwon do, and was very proud of becoming a second-degree black belt. After retirement, cruising was a favorite pastime to many different places. Florida during the winter months were fun. He was an avid skier, but now he did not like the cold. Wherever he went, meeting people was easy for him and many new friends were made from the conversations.

Besides his beloved wife of 53 years, Nancy (Wesolowski) Symington, Bruce leaves his daughter, Kristi Chiang and her husband Jack of Greenfield; a grandson, Jaden Chiang; a brother, Gary Symington and his wife Lisa of California; sister Pam Polopeck of Gilford; sister-in-law Bessie Symington of Bristol; and nieces and nephews, Troy Symington, Katie Chiaratti and Marcie Polopeck.

Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Symington, and a niece, Shelley Polopeck.

His military burial will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery located at 110 Daniel Webster Hwy in Boscawen. Please park along the curb in front of Administration to be led in procession in the vehicles to the graveside for the ceremony. The family is arranging a meeting place after the ceremony.
